..Ouray, Telluride, Silverton campground recommendations

..i posted up on ADV looking for campground recommendations..

hey kidz, thaw your brains out for a spell, and help your ADV buddies out.

a few of us from the warmer climates of the ADV universe are planning to pillage, plunder and generally ride the hell out of the Ouray, Telluride, Silverton, area this upcoming summer 2010.

we are looking for campground recommendations in this general area. what we’d like is to drag a toy hauler or two to use as a base camp, and some will tent camp. so our minimum requirements are for RV accessible sites that will also allow tent camping.

additional facilities also appreciated, but not really required, are wifi, bar, hot showers, bikini dancers and serving wenches, hot tubs or hot springs, fire rings, dirt bike (dual sport type) friendly, aesthetics, and location…

anybody have any recommendations? or conversely have you been to any of these places you would absolutely not return?

there is tee-kill-ya, whiskey, maybe some charred animal flesh, a camp fire with a lot of bench racing, and oh yeah bacon, offered as payment for an excellent suggestion!!!

The state park in Ridgway(just below 7000′) is nice, but you would need to ride a bit of pavement to get to the good stuff.(1)

The areas above Silverton (above 9000′) are your best bet. At Eureka you are near to Engineer, Stony and Cinnamon passes to the east and Black Bear and Ophir on the other side of 550.(2)

Camping near Telluride is a bit tough. There is a campsite in town (3) and there is a NF campground(Sunshine) a few miles south.(4)

Near Ouray is the KOA (5) and just above town is a NF campground(Amphitheater). The NF campground is nice as you are close to Ouray(hot springs, good food) and close to Imogene Pass.(6)
